Fun to play with, but not what I was hoping for.
After months of seeing videos for this pen, I finally caved and bought myself one. It was pretty easy to figure out, honestly. Had to try a couple different fabrics (I was using the smallest needle with two threads of DMC floss) to make the stitches stay in, but got it in about 10 mins. It was fun to play with and experiment, but it's not for me. I do a lot of hand embroidery, and this pen can't hold a candle to what I can do myself. It's capable of very limited stitches. It would be good for a beginner with a lot of patience. I will be returning it, but I did enjoy the short time we spent together. :)

So far I like it, still learning how to use it.

No instructions!
The kit is complete however there were no instructions, AT ALL. Had to find a you-tube video in order to load the thread and understand the steps. The first material I tried it on was a package of tea towels made for embroidery and the Pen Punch Needle destroyed it. Again, instructions on the weight of fabric etc would have been nice. Still working on locating a material that it will work on.

Doesn't make legitimate stitches
As someone who's done a decent amount of hand embroidering, I had high hopes for this tool, but found myself underwhelmed even after looking at tutorial videos: this tool does not make actual stitches, and with this in mind, I don't know why it claims that things like back-stitches are possible. Wondering why it tells you to not take the needle out too far? By definition, stitches are LOOPS, which this tool does not allow you to make -- it makes what are effectively wavy lines going in and out of the fabric. Tug on the needle too far, the arch on the wrong side of the fabric comes out, so the entire "stitch" comes out. Pull longer, the whole THREAD comes out. This a.) provides NO security for your embroidery whatsoever, and b.) makes the wrong side of the fabric a matted mess, which if you're trying to make a nice flat lacy applique, makes for bulk and extra thread everywhere. The only way I can think to handle this that would allow for actual loops is pulling off a split stitch that catches the extra underside thread, which is WAY more trouble than its worth. So if you're really dedicated to the craft and want a clean front and back, stick to hand stitching.

Malfunctioning Parts and Broke After First Use! DO NOT BUY!!
Summary: 50% of the needles included in the kit were solid metal rather than hollow, the primary pen broke after first use, and the threaders were not long enough to fit down the entire length of the pen. DO NOT BUY.1) Punch needle embroidery needles are suppose to be basically be hollow tubes with a sharp point and an eye. The tube part medium-sized needle attachment for the larger white pen (which was the ONE size I needed for my project) came COMPLETELY blocked! I couldn't even blow air through it. I thought that, perhaps, it might be clogged. But after trying to feel around inside the tube with a metal pin, it turns out it is sealed shut and is solid metal like any ordinary needle!2) The needle on the second purple pen (which permanently attached and cannot be changed out) was also COMPLETELY SEALED shut!3) After my first use, the dial on the primary pen broke while rethreading with more string. It no longer tightens, which means the needle cannot be held in place, making the pen utterly useless. You're better off using the naked needle on it's own!4) The long threaders DO NOT fit through the smallest needle size. The only ones that do are the smaller threaders, which do not reach through the length of the pen. I had to thread the threader with a threader to make it work!5) The snippers included are very cheap and poorly made. While they do cut embroidery thread, the cut is not as clean as a proper pair of embroidery scissors. Also, the pair I received are a pinky-purple rather than the blue ones in the picture. I didn't mind but be warned if that matters to you. This is by far my worst purchase on Amazon in all the years I've used this site. The product is very cheaply made, poorly manufactured and completely unusable. The only good things I can say for it is that the butterfly patches are nice and the threaders are a bit more durable than a regular sized lazy-susan. I can at least use them for my beading projects. The small plastic case it came in was also nice and came with adjustable compartments, but I could easily pick up something similar at the dollar store. Save your money and don't buy this unless the patches, threaders and case are worth it to you.

Does not hold needle tight
Does not hold needle tight and they made it look like the butterflies were on the holder which is one reason I bought it thought butterflies were a decorating the case.
