Q: Would this work on walls that have been painted over distemper or do I need to scrap all the paint off and start again?

I have used this on walls that were distempered. I brushed off the loose bits then just painted over it with Gardz. It bonds the surface into a solid base ready for painting over. It's brilliant! But it is very messy to use because it's very thin and drips everywhere. Then again it cleans up with soap and water. Highly recommended!

No, It wouldn’t protect against damp it would build a slight barrier I presume but then would come through at some point. where damp is on the wall usually at floor level strip back paint and wallpaper to reveal damp area then dry out , never paint straight onto damp area dry and coat with a paint like Zinsser Watertite which is great base and treatment first. A dehumidifier machine is good for helping to dry out walls with damp area prior to painting You can also use a coat of zinsser perma white in areas prone to lots of condensation like bathroom and kitchens that helps the mould caused by damp

Q: I want to paint one wall with this primer, its 360cm by 250cm. Will 500ml be enough?

Shop around and choose a larger version maybe of a different make. Ever build do a good alternative sealer, it’s relatively cheap and it works.

Q: My walls old,1910.painting Matt emulsion but paint won’t stick and looks like old plaster may come away, will this help?

I think so as it will form a hard see through skin on top of the flaky old paint. It’s worth a try anyway….
